Chrome becomes unresponsive when uploading a file to any website 0 Recommended Answers 105 Replies 714 Upvotes

Whenever I try to upload a file to any website (OneDrive, Google Drive, Gmail, etc.), Chrome becomes unresponsive as soon as I click the Upload button. Normally it should display a dialog asking me to select the file to upload. When I click anywhere in the Chrome window, I just get the standard Windows "ding" sound. I have to force-close Chrome from Task Manager.
This just started happening recently. It always worked fine previously.
Windows 7, Chrome 73.0.3683.86

This just started happening to me 5/10/19. Not sure if it was a recent update or what, but I have to switch to Firefox to get it to work.

Mine is doing the same thing. Completely hangs Chrome when trying to upload using the upload dialog.
As from 10th June 2019 as well. Upgrading did nothing after upgrade to latest version of Chrome and update to latest version of Win 10 1903. (18362.145). Resetting to defaults in Chrome did nothing too.
Google Chrome is up to date
Version 75.0.3770.80 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I've been getting this only since May this year and it is extremely frustrating. I can't click the "x" box to close chrome, I have to go to task manager and individually right click and "end task" on each chrome task until I get the one that will close the window entirely and I can restart.

I've been getting the same issue. Can't upload any image/file/attachment to anything. Anything that prompts a new upload window to open causes the whole window to freeze. End up needing to force close the window. Very very annoying.

This has also been happening to me for months. I've been just copying links over to Firefox, but I'm going to switch browsers.

I believe this issue is likely caused by network locations saved in your Windows File Explorer history that are no longer reachable. The system tries to reach them and has a lengthy timeout period.
