Chrome Print dialogue not offering fit to page, landscape, other printing options 0 Recommended Answers 68 Replies 453 Upvotes

I have noticed that chrome is inconsistent in the printing options made available to users. When printing PDFs, sometimes certain advanced printing options are available, and sometimes they are not, and I cannot find any sort of pattern as to why. Notably, the options that most interest me are "Fit to Page", and "Landscape".

Is there a way to force these options to be available on all print jobs and not merely select print jobs? Is there a logic behind why advanced printing options are or are not available on one document or another?

Same here, and it prints pdfs in landscape vs not randomly from Chrome browser.

Think I may have blundered into a solution when reading a different query, part of which states: "When I select text on a website, right click and choose "Print...", the print window comes up and I can adjust the scale."

Have tried this and it works|?| There is a "Scale" option if you scroll down through the printing preferences. [You can also swap between Portrait and Landscape, but frankly I was able to do this before, anyway, when just using Ctrl+P,  through choosing Advanced printing preferences].

However there is some very bad news also. His query continues: "Previously, when I adjusted the scale it would reflow the text to reduce the amount of pages to print. This is no longer the case and is extremely frustrating. With a smaller scale everything gets smaller on each page, but now there is a bunch of white space at the bottom of each page, rather than the text reflowing from the next page onto the previous one (he includes a screenshot). Am I doing something wrong? This seems to be a bug that wasn't there in prior versions of Chrome".

Again, the same thing happens to me - I reduced the scale to 50%, so to get a two-page list onto one. Now I still have two pages, with the text scaled correctly down but each with only the top half used!?! This is clearly a BUG (and an old bug at that, given the dates on all these queries) and Google should get on and fix it.

Hope this has helped (a bit, anyway).   Regards,   Nicky K.

Been having the same issue for quite a while. Very frustrating. It always used to work properly. I hope they fix it soon.

Today, December 2019, it's still an issue.

Almost a year after this original post.

How can using a Chromebook and Chrome OS as a dedicated computer be taken seriously when you have basic issues like this and they continue to exist for almost a year, maybe longer.

This would never happen in Microsoft Windows.

ditto, very frustrating and time consuming trying to find a way around this.

Thank you all for your post, I am having the same issue. So it's still not solved in 2020.  I have seen instructions which tell you how to change this, but the "Content Settings" it mentions are not in the Advanced menu.

Right clicking and choosing print on the document/web page seems to be a short term solution.

I'm disliking my Chromebook more and more. What a disappointment that the printing changes day to day, but the issue never gets fixed. Truly disappointed.

Right clicking and clicking print brings up the layout option but immediately before you have time to click it the   layout option disappears - so this problem that has been going on for many months now is still there.  Clearly Chrome technicians are sitting twiddling their thumbs and could not care less about fixing thius problem!

We've had this issue as well in our organization.  When the Chrome print dialog box comes up, the Layout option appears momentarily and then disappears.  I've found that the Chrome extension Mercury Reader was causing this issue.  If the extension is disabled or uninstalled, the issue goes away.  Also, if I change the extension's Site access setting to On click instead of On all sites, the issue goes away.

Our organization has had Mercury Reader deployed for quite some time and this print issue has surfaced only recently.  It's possible a recent update to Chrome and/or the extension is the culprit.
