Internet radio stream not functional using Chrome only 0 Recommended Answers 22 Replies 214 Upvotes

All of the sudden I cannot listen to my internet radio station when using the Chrome browser.  All other browsers work fine.  The "play" arrow is no longer functional on my website.  However, a work around is to right click the play arrow and select "copy audio address"  and paste it in the URL section and hit enter.  Then a play
arrow fills the screen and I can then click to play the audio.  It is only an issue with Chrome, and it is something that just started happening.   Hopefully Chrome will fix this bug!  Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!

Usually this error occurs because the radio station you are trying to listen to is running on an unencrypted port (not 443). This is quite common and it's not technically necessary for radio stations to be encrypted but nowadays web browsers like Chrome have started disallowing unencrypted content to be shown in an otherwise encrypted websites.

There is a few solutions for you right now:
  • Use a different browser like Firefox. For the moment they haven't blocked unencrypted content on an otherwise encrypted page web page.
  • Open the Chrome web browser and enter our website URL and then click on the padlock icon to the left of the URL box and then from the drop down menu select the 'Site Settings' option, you can then scroll down to the 'Insecure content' option at the bottom of the page and select 'Allow', this will create an exception for the website and allow you to continue using the player as before.
  • Just use the external player links instead of the web the embedded web player. We recommend installing VLCand using the .PLS playlist links to play the station from within VLC instead of on the web page.

Yet another massive slap in the face from Google. They did it a few years ago making Shoutcast V.1 streams unreachable. Now they have done it again to millions of listeners who without any reason will suddenly not be able to listen to stations on Shoutcast, TuneIn or most other directories. Bunch of arrogant buffoons in charge of Chromes development. people should use Opera, Firefox or Edge instead!

This has saved my bacon, been hunting around and trying to fix this for a week or so now. Only downside is some of my listeners may be elderly and/or not really technically minded.

@CMYK:  I believe that you need to get and install a certificate on the streaming server.  Let's Encrypt offerrs free certificates if that helps (or you can get one from a certificate vendor or web host.)

Good evening, the problem will only be resolved if icecast or shoutcast player have SSL certificate

Dear developers! If it’s SSL, then why does this radio work? http://www.veniceclassicradio.eu/player/new/vcr.php?ch=0
Where is your defense? This is my favorite radio station and on some sites it stopped working in Google Chrome 81. Probably you decided to protect people from good music? If not, do a good deed, write to the owners of the radio station so that they switch to an SSL certificate.

I have radios with SSL certificates and the signal is interrupted after 30 minutes anyway! Chrome headaches for radio station owners.

Google Chrome does this for your protection. It is not a bug, it is a feature.  You get warned when you hit sites with mixed insecure and secure content. Pay attention!

For secure sites in Google Chrome not permitting insecure content:
example: https://directory.shoutcast.com
  1. Click on the website secure lock icon in the URL bar - or where it says Not Secure (i)
  2. Click on Site Settings from the drop down menu
  3. Under permissions, change 'Insecure Content' to Allow for this site

I like to listen in the UK via the Radio Player app. Stopped working in the last few days. I am about to chuck chrome in and move over to Edge. Chrome is losing it's edge to the competition.
