Chrome crashes immediately upon opening it

I have a MacBook Pro 8.1 running Catalina 10.15.17 and Chrome crashes every time I open it. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. It still crashes.

My guess is Google did not adequately (if at all) test their latest release on Catalina running on unsupported Macs. Shame on them. There is a quite substantial community of Mac enthusiasts who want to run supported OS's on unsupported hardware rather than being forced to either run a no longer supported OS or have to abandon a perfectly good piece of hardware.

Safari works fine. I guess it's bye-bye to Chrome for now! Will investigate getting Edge working on my old iMac Pro early 2009! Remember your roots Google - "Don't Be Evil!" And "Do the right thing" and fix this!
