after latest update of google chrome from 78 version to 79, chrome started to freeze even when I'm typing text.
freezes also can be happen when I scroll page, or when page load loads, or tab opened. Video on youtube also freezing.
Freezes can be 10-20 seconds. Tab switch in browser helps to avoid freeze, then page work for some time without of freezes. I have 5-10 opened tabs always. 4GB RAM.
I didn't see this problem on chrome 78.
Downgrade to 78 version helped, but instead of freezes I saw endless page loading.

UPDATE:
chrome 80 looks like solved

Same here.. only extension enabled was LastPass. I couldn't get to the Settings page in Chrome long enough to disable it as a test, it kept freezing. Currently not able to use Chromium 79 at all, had to switch browsers.

Memory/CPU utilization on the machine is fine, all other programs run as expected with no lag. 8G ram, SSD with plenty of space, 2 CPUs.

If I can be of help with offering more info let me know

Edit: A few more details..
  1. Disabled all extensions; issue persists
  2. This is an issue in Chrome v79 also (not just Chromium), and also Brave latest stable
  3. Even running Chromium/Chrome in headless mode is broken, I get a white screen of death when trying to run automated unit tests via Laravel Dusk.

Side note: I also downgraded the binary used in Dusk to v78, and it didn't work until I also disabled headless mode. Without it, tests ran as expected

Exactly same here. Chrome 79 (64bit), Fedora 31 (64bit), lxqt(x.org), old intel gpu. No problems before. For sure it's not about swap

Same problem here. Not on windows, but on Huawei P10 Pro, Galaxy S8 and a Chromium Netbook.

Same problem for me with Chrome 79 on Linux Mint 19.2 (see this post on their forum). The Chrome I have on my Windows (version 79 too) is fine though.

EDIT: Just want to point out that my Mint is running in a VirtualBox VM on a Windows 10 host...
