Turning off dark mode for Google Docs

For many things, I prefer Dark Mode. For Google Docs (especially documents that others have prepared) it looks awful.

But there seems to be no obvious way to have just that one type of page load "normally".

How do I disable Dark Mode for Google Docs ONLY?

I went through all of my extensions, and found one that specifically put Docs in a dark mode (!) but wasn't showing on the extensions bar and I completely forgot that I had. Problem solved. Thanks for prompting me where to look.

hi
if you want to disable the dark mode in google docs, perhaps you could try going to settings (indicated by three horizontal lines or gear symbol), and then you should be able to find "themes". If you click that, you should be able to select if you wanted docs to be in dark, light, or system default. Choose "light" if you don't want it to be in dark mode.
Hope it helps :)

I've never tried a complete reset of the flags! I already reset the force dark mode flag, which didn't solve it. There are many other tweaks I have made over time that I don't want to lose. Is there any easy way to back up the flags, or see what I have changed?

If I select a new theme it is global for all of chrome not just for docs and that is the exact problem I'm asking about in this thread.

Flags are for developer use and are not recommended for average users. They are experimental and can cause instability. They will only be available for as long as the developers need them. So, you shouldn't expect them to be permanent.

No you can't back them up.

Resetting the flags did not solve the Google Docs dark mode problem
Did you install an extension?
chrome://extensions/

Yes, I have quite a few extensions. The only only one that should affect anything is Dark Reader. Paradoxically, it actually makes Docs legible (Docs loads "normal" which is to say white, then goes dark and illegible after a moment) but I am pretty sure Dark Reader has no effect when turned off. I also went back to the default theme for Chrome, but the problem persists.
Try removing it just to see if that fixes it. Extensions can be broken by updates sometimes and cause some realy quirky problems. The web versions of Docs Sheets, and Slides do not have a Dark mode. It is almost certainly a flag or extension.

Knowing it is almost certainly a flag or an extension is very helpful thank you. I have reset the flags and I will look through the extensions, and report back.

Can you tell us what the extension was in case someone else comes along with the same issue?
