Update on July 24th, 2020: The post below is in reference to behavior observed by Windows 10 users during the Chrome M78 and M79 releases, which occurred in late 2019. If you are reading this posting after that time period and are seeing “Aw, Snap!” messages, the root cause of the behavior may be different. We recommend reviewing our help center article for more information.

Hello everyone,

We’re investigating reports of an increase in Aw, Snap! crashes following the Chrome M78 update. If you are experiencing this behavior, please see the following information for assistance.

If you are seeing the behavior on a work computer, or while on a connection provided by your workplace, this may be related to a known incompatibility between Chrome and older versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection. You can reach out to your IT department for more assistance, and share the below:

You should update Symantec Endpoint Protection to version 14.2 or later. You can also disable the added protection that triggers this incompatibility using the RendererCodeIntegrityEnabled policy in Chrome. More information is available in our Enterprise Release Notes.

If you are seeing this behavior on a personal computer at home, additional information will help our team continue to investigate. If you are able, please reply to this thread and share the name and version number of the anti-virus software you use on your computer. Please note that responses are public, so please do not share personal information.

Thanks!
Craig, Chrome Support Manager

Hello everyone,

We’re providing a final update to confirm that the underlying feature (Renderer Code Integrity for Windows 10) that resulted in the previous incompatibilities has now been enabled for multiple Chrome stable releases.

If you continue to see Aw, Snap! errors, the root cause of the behavior may be different. We recommend reviewing our help center article for more information on resolving Aw, Snap! errors.

Further information on debugging Renderer Code Integrity incompatibilities can be found on our development tracker.

Thanks!
