HTML5: VIDEO FILE NOT FOUND error message

This issue is new in Chrome. It used to stream videos but, in the last week or two, it keeps coming up with the same error message "HTML5: VIDEO FILE NOT FOUND", even if it begins to play the video. It will crash with this error about 10 or 15 seconds into playback, and it can happen on any website. Microsoft's Edge browser does not have any problems streaming videos, again, on any website. Does Google really want people to dump Chrome for Edge?

Are you switching to Edge?

Try a quick browser reset in case a setting or extension is causing the issue.
If that fixes the issue add your extensions back 1 at a time so that if the problem reoccurs you know which extension caused it.

Your first answer provided the correct answer afterall because I discovered I had a corrupted browser extension. I deleted it and installed a fresh copy and, so far, things seem to be working again. I'll let you know if that does not end up fixing the issue long term. Thank you for your help.

Already reset, deleted cache, etc., etc., several times. No help. This is an issue for Google. They screwed something up in their recent updates and need to fix it now.
I've searched the forums and this is the only thread about this issue I can find. There are over 3 billion Chrome users in the world. If Google had screwed something up it wouldn't be affecting just one person.

Hello Brian KO!

First do make sure your google chrome and your device is up to date.

Is that error occurs in incognito mode of google chrome? Kindly check it and let me know.

Try these two methods, before coming back.
  • In google chrome, go to setting, in the left side of your screen, you will see "Advanced" option, click on it, you will see "System" option, click on it, now disable "Use hardware acceleration when available", relaunch your chrome and check the websites.
  • In the same google chrome settings, click on "Security and privacy" option in the left side of your screen, click on "site settings" option, if you scroll down you will see "JavaScript" option, click on it and make sure "Site can use JavaScript" is enabled.

Thank you!

Hello Brandon Hatfield.
I'm having this same problem. It started 5 days ago.
Have you tried the step I already provided?

Clear your browser's cache and data. Time range All Time
Did that fix the issue?

Have you tried any of the fixes here?
