How to Disable or Hide 'Reading List' From Chrome Bookmark Bar?
2
Hi. I want to discuss about one of the new feature 'Reading List'.

Ever since Chrome Updated in early 2021, The new feature 'Reading List' appears and interrupts when I try to Bookmark a webpage. I mainly use Bookmark features but after the update, now Bookmark takes long time then before. And sometimes, bookmark doesn't works properly because of reading list interferes the saving bookmark. before few weeks ago, I was able to Only Bookmark when I hit the Star mark on top of the right corner. I disable this feature on "Experiment (chrome://flags)" like a console.

But since 22th Oct, 'Reading List' Option on Experiment page has been removed for no reason. instead, There is a 'Side panel' Option which only disables reading list but not Hide entire 'Reading List' feature from Chrome. But even more weird thing is that doesn't disables it either I tried downgrade Chrome browser but that didn't work either.

Some people like this new feature but others(or most of) like me don't. One of my job is to make tons of Presentation files and Report files every day. I use Chrome Browser mainly because of convenience. But this new feature made Chrome uncomfortable. I Search & Bookmark Webpages faster and often more then other people. I bookmark hundreds pages every day but this issue makes me SO irritating every time I try to bookmark something.

some people might say that "It's only you click twice, why are you being so lazy?" But place yourself in my situation. people like me really need to bookmark faster to in order to save time and make more files. That's why I desperate to hide this feature on Chrome. I just searched Forums and I found many of requests about Hide reading list just like this. But not much of answers yet. I just hope this is just a temporary problem. Or else just  get use to this....

Could you add "Hide Reading List option" for use bookmark page without Reading list? or at least Roll-back the 'Reading List' option on Experiment console page? Or should I just get used to it?

Thanks.

sadly flags like this only exist to disable a feature if it causes programming / compatibility problems, not to provide eternal options to turn off features you dob't like
so now it's deemed "stable and working ok" the flag may be removed.

JUST FOUND THIS:

"Found this:
  1. Enter chrome://flags/#read-later into the address bar and hit the Enter key.
  2. Select Disabled from the drop down list next to the Reading List option.
It worked great for me. It really irritates me when Developers implement new things without the option of removing."

Hope this helps bc it just worked beautifully for me!!!

Thank you! I too do not like the reading list feature and had it disabled before they rolled out the lasted update. I was looking for a way to re-disable it. I find it to be a redundant feature that steams from the bookmark. If you wanted a "reading list" you could have just created a bookmark folder and saved stuff into there.
