As a science educator many of the simulations and interactives I use are flash based.  Will there be any available support for flash in the future?  Our school relies on Chromebooks for the students, if the majority of our resources will no longer be supported by chrome we may be forced to change that.

What support, if any, will be available?

Hi Devin,

The support of the Adobe Flash plugin is going to end in the year 2020, and that is for all major web browsers (Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari).

However, if you save the flash file (.swf) on your Windows computer. Then you open that file in a 'Flash player projector' application (not in a website). It is just like opening a video file in a movie player app. Then you can always use this Flash file (even after 2020).
You can find more information about this debug software on this website:

Thanks,
Stefan

That's a decent work around when using it as a demonstration, but doesn't find a solution for having the students work on it using the chromebooks.  The chromebooks themselves I assume will not be able to use flash at any capacity?

Hi Devin,

There is recently a developer that tries to emulate Adobe Flash in a web browser (without a plugin needed). And all build in Rust programming code.
You can test it on this page:

However, it is not a guaranty that will work in the future.

Thanks,
Stefan

The interactive I'm most worried about does not work in this emulator.   This is the simulation I'm needing https://astro.unl.edu/classaction/animations/renaissance/kepler.html

Hi Devin,

I tried to download the swf file, and run it on that website.
And I see the left and bottom bar, but not the other elements are visible. You can report that issue to that emulator team: https://github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle

Thanks,
Stefan

My DYI Design website editor uses Adobe Flash Player.  Will I still be able to add flash to the browsers or upload them to work on my designs online?  It's  a membership site I own and my members use Flash Player to make their DYI designs.  I also make designs.  I can't afford anyone to do a change my website right now and haven't been able to afford this in the past.   There must be a way around this.
Thank you.

I find that when I go to the windows update for adobe flash it makes my system unstable. I believe it contains a VIRUS. It loads on extra software onto my system and crashes my windows.  I have done the windows 10 update to the 1909 settings. Then I removed as many of the unrecognized programs that I could ( based upon task manager.  I am also needing this Flash Player for teaching and education, but I am unsure on how to run it locally.

Trying to figure it out
