Google Chrome Crashes after atleast 1 minute 0 Recommended Answers 6 Replies 614 Upvotes

Pre Note:
This started atleast 4 months ago but still happens today.

Alrighty so basically, after one of those normal windows popups that require you to click "Yes or No" to pick an option like when launching apps in administrator, I pressed a button and after awhile Google Chrome started to not respond. I then relaunched, thinking it was fine, and within a minute google chrome completely froze. I don't mean crashed or gave me an error, just FROZE, so pretty much it was not responding at all and just sat there, doing nothing. I tried looking up help on YouTube and sent another one of these before but I got nothing. After that, I tried reinstalling or using the "Fix" option (if that was a thing, I forget) to attempt to fix it, but it STILL, DIDN'T, WORK. If I could get some help fixing this problem that would be great, because I really prefer using chrome instead of edge...
Thank you!

Same. Just gave up using Chrome. Reinstalled. Restarted. Nothing works. iPhone and iPad, spread to another iPad. At least Safari works fine.

Hi TheRuby Chest
Chrome Freezes or Crashes
1) First of all delete the Local State file which holds some of the Custom Settings, and see if it helps you. To delete the Local State file, follow these steps:
a. Close Google Chrome
b. Open Windows Explorer
c. In address bar type in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
d. You’ll find “Local State” file there. Delete it
e. Open Google Chrome and see if has helped.
2) You could also try the following!
Rename the Default folder which has all the Google extensions, Bookmarks, History, Jumplist icons etc. The reason why we are renaming it is because if it’s not the cause of the random freezes and crashes, then we don’t have to lose all this information.
To rename the Default folder, follow these steps:
a. Close Google Chrome
b. Open Windows Explorer
c. In address bar type in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
d. You’ll find the Default folder here. Rename it to “Default.old”
e. Open Google Chrome and see if this has helped stop the crashes.
3) You might also want to checkout if the Flash extension is the culprit and causing the crashes, and see if it helps. To do so, follow these steps:
a. Open Google Chrome
b. In the address bar type in “about:plugins”
c. Find “Flash” and click on Disable
d. Restart Google Chrome and test it now
If it helps, then uninstall Flash from the Program and Feature and reinstall it. To reinstall Flash, you may follow this guide on Adobe.
4) Check if your Google Chrome Shockwave Plugin is creating problems. Find & Disable Power-Hungry Extensions in Chrome using Chrome Task Manager.
5) Well, if none of these steps help you, you might have to consider reinstalling your Google Chrome browser. To do so:
a. Go to Programs and Features and Uninstall Google Chrome
b. Then open explorer.exe and go to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Localc. Delete “Google” folder
d. Download Google Chrome and install it again.
This should help! If it doesn’t, you may want to reset Chrome settings.
