Want to retrieve my Bookmarks and History

Hi,
I am Narendra Kumar, a student in India. I, by mistake, deleted my default profile.

I was logging in with a different Gmail account and after successfully logging it, a message came. It asked me whether I want to proceed with a different profile/theme (seemed like a new feature). I clicked yes and it took me to a different window. I didn't want to go ahead with it so I decided to delete that profile/theme. But unintentionally I deleted my default profile. It didn't even show the "undo" message. I realised this instantly just after I clicked the delete button but it seemed like the damage was done.

All my well-placed bookmarks (very important) were deleted.
All my important passwords were deleted.
All my history was gone.
All the personalisations were gone.
Google search can't predict my searches accurately now.

Sadly, I was instantly taken aback. Now I don't think I will be able to interact with Google Chrome just the way I did it an hour ago. It is my humble request to Google that if there's any way my lost assets can be retrieved, then please retrieve them. My years of interaction with google is disrupted and I feel like I am just starting to use google. Help me please. Help me recover my data. Please. Please. Please.

Thanking you ahead of time.

Narendra Kumar

You need to be signed in to the Chrome browser with your Google account.

Hii Narendra Kumar

Open your lost data account in Chrome and follow the given instructions, if your history is not gone permanently, then you can try
After opening, you will see the download data, go inside and set it like export
you will look like this.

Fix my problem
Jul 7, 2021
My bookmarks are lost. This happened because I was all of the sudden asked to set up the new profile when logging to multiple gmail accounts - this is so confusing.  I did set up a new profile without realizing that bookmarks, browsing history and extensions are now going to saved per specific profile.

I did not like what happened once I used this feature so I then tried to delete extra user profiles (by default named Person 1, Person 2, - very intuitive - why not use the email address? ) and now I cannot locate my original bookmarks :( I must have deleted the original profile that contained `my precious` bookmarks and other data. Is there a way to restore bookmarks let's say from 24 hours ago? Recent bookmarks that were just created - youtube, google - I am not really interested in.

Is there a default profile somewhere where I can get my original bookmarks? Or a bookmark history I can retrieve? The answer provided for this issue does not address my situation. Why these are not backed up outside of the profile folder?

As for this new settings question that got me into this predicament: Why would I want multiple profiles all of the sudden? Why am I encouraged to have separate profiles - who else is using my computer? Why is there no option to share bookmarks between profiles?

Thank you

Hello Narendra. Glad that helped.

Hi Eva Sorokacova,

How or where were you told to set up new profiles for your additional email addresses? I've never seen this. Do you have a screenshot of the message?

If you're signed into Chrome with your main account, that's the account that will sync your Bookmarks and other stuff no matter how many other email addresses you log in to.

I am signed in one gmail account. I am trying to add my second gmail account in the same browser instance so I go to add another account and sign in:

This is then I get a prompt:

I am doing this on daily basis because I have few work gmail accounts for my various roles and I just want to have all email accounts opened in one browser instance. I have not see this prompt until 2 days ago.

Hmmm, my screen captures were removed...

Your screen captures need to be in a picture format - jpg or png for example.

So... I may have just solved part of this problem. Not for the deleted data,
But listen. I had the exact same problem, except I didn't delete my account. The issue was just that all my extensions, passwords, bookmarks, settings, ALL MY STUFF,  was now under my SCHOOL email and I couldn't change it. So then I did a thing, and somehow... it's back to my personal email? I do not know what happened but this is what the circumstances were.

1. I created a new (blank) Chrome user profile with my personal email. I synced just the extensions.
2. I had a window open which was signed into my school email. (the one that stole all my stuff)
3. I signed out of the school email profile.
4. I attempted to reply to this discussion thread.
5. It asked me to sign in, so I attempted to sign in with my personal email.
6. It asked me if I wanted to "switch to existing chrome profile"
7. Something happened. THe little circle in the corner switched to my personal email's profile color.
8. I hit cancel.
AND THEN SOMEHOW I WAS SIGNED INTO MY PERSONAL EMAIL CHROME PROFILE, IN THE WINDOW WITH ALL THE TABS AND EXTENSIONS AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE SWITCHED OVER WHAT THE HECK, I mean I'm happy, but HOW????

You never logged out of your personal gmail. When you sync anything it always syncs to just the one account, not the whole device. So when you initially logged into your school email it mustve made that the primary account and brought all the data over, and once you deleted it and signed into your personal profile it made that the primary one and resynced that way

Hi Eva Sorokacova,

I am in the exact same predicament as you are.
Deleted the ´original´ profile incl all bookmarks, history and add-ons in an attempt to go back to one single profile. I also want to use multiple gmail accounts in one browser.
Now all is lost... I really hope we can find a solution!
Hope you have a great day nonetheless.

Hello Annaviola,

The solution is to choose which account to sign in to sync. After that, all other accounts are simply accounts open in the same browser. If you're offered the option to create a separate profile, click No Thanks.

Hi tony_b,

Indeed by clicking 'no thanks' you can have multiple Gmails open within one browser and one profile.
So that's workable! Thanks.

However I am still dearly missing my bookmarks, extensions, history etc.

I believe Eva's and my (and perhaps others') situation has to do with us operating multiple Gmail accounts. The two resulting issues:
1. Our bookmarks etc. are spread across the different Gmail accounts. Before this system switch, depending on with which account you logged in with first, it saved your history, passwords, etc on that account.
>> Should/could we retrace the bookmarks and extensions of each Gmail account and combine them somehow? And then insert into one Chrome profile?

2.When this new system was introduced, we at first created different Chrome profiles for each of these Gmail accounts. (We did not click 'no thanks' then). Then we were taken aback by what that results in: different browser windows for different Gmail accounts. And went ahead and deleted all the profiles.
I now see what they ask when you delete a profile:
Delete this profile and its data?
This will permanently delete your browsing data from this device.
 >>  Have we actually deleted all our data....?

Sorry for the long text I'm having trouble explaining and understanding this all. I have now added and deleted and synced and switched so much with these profiles -- I hope there is a way back.
Thank you for thinking along.
