How to I eliminate the "add to reading list option" when selecting chrome's bookmark icon?

How to I eliminate the "add to reading list option" when selecting chrome's bookmark icon?  I've eliminated "reading list" from the toolbar.  But I have to perform an extra step every time I want to bookmark a page using the star icon.  I'm presented with two options: "Add bookmark" or "Add to reading list".  Is there a way to eliminate the "Add to reading list" option and just go the bookmarks without this extra step?

Supporting Carl's request...
Imagine that you are a serious user.
Someone who may be researching a topic, and so have many tabs open.

Yesterday, I could simply click 'Done' 'Done' 'Done' 'Done' 'Done' 'Done' 'Done' 'Done'.
... all the files bookmarked in the last used folder.
Great for productivity.

Today, after an update, this is no longer possible.

Surely, if the reading list is disabled; so too should be the link option.

This is a bug that should be fixed!

Added to what User 1273... said: flags don't last forever, and they eventually expire. When that happens, the "read later" feature will be reenabled.

There's a way to extend a flag lifespan 2 more versions though (in chrome://flags you'll see an option to temporarily expire the flags available in the previous 2 versions).

Cheers :-)

I'm failing to get my head around this.  How does temporarily expiring flags in two previous versions help with a future version?  Plus I only see this option for version 88 & 89 and see that we're now on version 91.  FYI, I'm new to this flag business.

Paste this in the address bar, and go:
chrome://flags/#read-later

I was excited that worked.  But now when I close chrome and then reopen it, all the open tabs are still there.  I reset the reading list flag and neither the default or enable options clear the tabs.  I see that I can close all tabs via the three buttons in the top right.  But that is an extra step every time I use chrome (and then close it) vice an extra step when I bookmark a page.  Since I bookmark a lot less that I close chrome this "fix" is a step in the wrong direction.

Well that was interesting.  The open tabs issue seems to have fixed itself.
