Virus/Malware - Search Engage / Search Solutions Extension Hijack

I can't find away of removing this extension. I go to chrome://extensions and its listed as Installed by Enterprise Policy and cannot be deleted

I've run Malware Bytes , CCleaner, StopZilla, Chrome Clean Up Tool, SpyHunter,  and nothing is removing this extension from my browser . I even looked into "Uninstall Program" incase some program was installed without my permission, and nothing on the list is out of the ordinary.

this was installed without my permission, and even in the Google Store, this extension is being reported as malware

Can someone help me?

Thanks for reaching out to us -- it appears that you may have unwanted software on your computer which has made changes to your computer settings. To resolve this issue:

  1. Download the Chrome policy remover.

  2. Right click it and select Run as administrator.

  3. Click Yes at the confirmation prompt and allow the process to complete.

If you see a message saying that Windows protected your PC, click More info > Run anyway.

Let us know if this helps!

Hi David

thanks. the extension is still listed and still unable to removed from Chrome. However, its just now a "puzzle" piece icon instead of the logo (SE) in a circle.
when i create a new tab, the tab says that the extension is missing.

this is what the page says:
chrome-extension://mnnmogmoebdegdjlohncfcfmhcfpkcpe/new.html failed to load

how can I completely remove this extension. Its still listed as "installed by enterprise policy"

Here is a screenshot of my extensions. As you can see the extension highlighted is a puzzle piece icon, but I cannot remove it

In that case, I'd recommend trying to manually remove it following the steps underneath OPTION 2 in this article:

Hi David

Option 2 from that article doesn't work. It doesn't show up in my registry (i saw that article prior to posting here)

This doesn't exist in my registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist

the only programs listed here are Adobe and Microsoft
SEarching on the Extension ID shows nothing.

chrome://policy/ for this extension:
Applies toLevelSourcePolicy namePolicy valueStatus
Current user
Mandatory
Platform
ExtensionInstallForcelist
OK

So how can I go about deleting/removing this?

Are you able to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine (or C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\User) and remove the file named Registry.pol?

Thank you,

Is it possible to get this fraudulent, browser hijacking extension removed from the Google Play Store as well? I reported it as a scam there.

Search Engage/Search Solutions was installed onto my Chrome without my permission too. I couldn't find where Registry.pol was on my computer using the Registry.exe function or finding it manually through  C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\User but I was able to find it by going to This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Windows (I have Windows 8) and searching for "registry.pol" in the search bar. Once I deleted it, I reopened Google Chrome and the extension was gone. My home page was still Search Engage by default but that was easily changeable. All traces of the malware wee gone otherwise, at least fro Chrome.

^^THIS WORKS!!
Thank you princehansol
