Download opens in New Tab instead of PDF File

Previously when I would download PDF files, they would open up as a PDF.  Now they are opening up in a new tab on chrome and it is very uncomfortable.  How do I change it back to opening up as a PDF on my PC instead of on chrome?

Unsure which version of Chrome you are using? Type chrome://version into your omnibox (where the URL is). Your version number will be listed on the first line.

Hey so I am having the exact same issue! Two weeks ago was not having this issue, but now today I noticed this (just got back from "spring" break, have not knowingly changed any settings in that time). I've figured out that if I disable the Chrome PDF viewer under plugins (type chrome:plugins in the browser) I can get it to open PDFs automatically with Adobe again, but this also means that when you click a PDF link online to preview it opens in the Adobe web viewer instead of the Chrome one. This is fine I guess, but I sort of would like to go back to how it was. Anyone know how to?

PS I already checked that Adobe is default program for PDF files, so it doesn't seem to be a Windows issue (using Windows 7).

tl:dr - had to disable Chrome PDF viewer so PDF files automatically open with Adobe. Want to go back to old settings where Adobe was default when clicking on a download, but Chrome viewer opened PDF links on the web for preview.

We are also having this problem. It just started to happen about 2 days ago. Chrome is opening all pdfs in a new window, not with Adobe Acrobat. This is happening to all of my employees, who all use either Acrobat Standard XI or Acrobat Pro XI and have it set as the default pdf viewer.

disable the Chrome PDF viewer under plugins (type chrome:plugins in the browser).  That's the answer Madeleine14 gave me.  It worked!  Problem resolved for me at least.

Thank you.  It's been quite annoying over the past couple of days.  I'm glad I found this thread.

I used your tip: type "chrome:plugins" in the browser, disabled Chrome PDF Viewer, and now I'm back to being productive again!

While disabling the Chrome PDF viewer does open the pdf in adobe, it still opens in a tab. Previously, I viewed the pdf in chrome, if interesting enough, I would download and then click on the downloaded file to open it outside of Chrome in Acrobat. This is not possible, only if I click "View file in folder" and then open it from there.
