Option to always open new tab from omnibox and bookmarks

I want an option to always open a new tab from the omnibox and from my bookmarks. In Firefox, I had to use Tab Mix Plus to get this feature, but this should really be a built-in feature of any tabbed browser.

I'm aware that there are keyboard shortcuts, but I want an option to make this the default behavior.2010-01-19

Additionally, the current keyboard shortcuts are inconsistent. I have to ctrl-click on bookmarks to open in a new tab, but I have to alt-enter from the omnibox. If I could set the default to open in a new tab, this would not matter.

@dwight.stegall, I'm aware of the keyboard shortcuts, as I said in my original post. I want an option to make the default, left-click-only behavior to open in a new tab. Also, I pointed out that sometimes ctrl is the modifier, and sometimes it's alt. That is inconsistent and confusing. For someone like me that wants a new tab, setting the default behavior would remove this inconsistency.

Click the bookmark with your mouse's scroll button.

@jmlemay, as I said in my post, I am aware of the shortcuts. I'm asking for the ability to set a default. I often browse from a laptop without using a mouse. But even if I did have a mouse, my point remains that I would still prefer to have a new tab almost all of the time, so it should be the default for me.

I agree, especially about fixing the inconsistency between ctrl one place and alt the other, but also about giving people the option to choose their own defaults.

In addition to the omnibox and bookmarks, people should also be able to choose their own default for clicking links.  And at least in the case of links and bookmarks, whatever is not set to default should be available from the right-click context menu (links should have a "open in current tab" option and bookmarks should have that option if the default is anything else).

One alternative solution is to........... hold Ctrl and left click on your bookmark. This at least will allow you to open the bookmark in the background. This is nice cause you can click on a few bookmarks and have the all pre-load :).
