Avast Antivirus Using Google Account Without Permission

Unsure which version of Chrome you are using? Type chrome://help into your omnibox (where the URL is). Your version number will be listed there along with the option to update if available.

Have you checked our known issues page? If your issue is not there, please provide a detailed description here:

Today I installed the latest update of Avast. After Reboot, I got a message box telling me it was going to push Avast Antivirus to all devices associated with my Google account. It detected my Google account and was going to install the apps on my phone without any intervention unless I cancelled out.

I have two factor authentication setup on my Google account, and I rechecked my account permissions - I did NOT find any permission granted to Avast to access my Google account.

How is Avast accessing my Google account? How is it even detecting the EMail ID for my account when I have never provided this to Avast?

I have Chrome installed on my Desktop and have logged into Chrome with my Google account. Does this mean any program that runs on my computer can use my Google account?

I don't know why that's happening but I like AVAST.
Perhaps you are Syncing AVAST to your Google account somehow.

I don't have any kind of syncing setup. My concern is they are able to read my Google Chrome account - is that possible?

I have just had the same experience. Like you there is no cross linking between my Avast account and my Google account. I cancelled out so I don't know if it subsequently required a password. I also have 2 step varification and no permissions for Avast setup.

I guess it also knew I have an Android phone? Unless everyone gets this regardless...

Having same issue, would like to know how Avast have my Google account address seeing as I used a hotmail address to sign up to it, can only assume somewhere in the Terms and Conditions we agreed to let them take personal email addresses etc.

I just got a reply on my ticket - they are getting it from Chrome

Hello
Thank you for contacting our support center with your concerns.

We have got it from your chrome account. If you are signed (permanently) to your google account in some web browser, avast can read your devices added to this account and offer our products. this situation can't be blocked.

Best regards,
