Google userOn-Screen Keyboard - make it go away!!!!
Please help me disable the on-screen keyboard pop up. It happens in incognito mode as well (that is what previous answers suggested). It only happens in chrome when I click in a text box. It is incredibly frustrating as I have a keyboard and it just started happening a few days ago.

caver_timGraham,
Early posts were when we were trying to work out what this was.
when the first couple of people posted, we didn't know if this was an extension or just that the keyboard was popping up when they were not expecting it.
when more people reported it, there were a few theories about incompatibilities with the way the browser reported to the OS that it would be possible to display an on screen keyboard.
this was believed to only affect windows 10 users
then a few users were reporting similar problems with windows 8.1
Its still not clear if the problem ( and there may be more than one) is a problem with the way the browser reports to windows, or the way windows deals with that report by the browser
some people have reported that an update to window made the problem stop.
telling the browser that you're running windows 7 (even if you're running 10) may change the way chrome reports to windows and fix the problem
Personally i think that's a better way to go rather than downloading an old copy of chrome from a 3rd party who may have altered it and anyway it may not have updates that are useful for security,
I suspect that if you take a minute to change the version of windows told to the browser in the compatibility tab of the browser shortcut, you'll be ok and you won't have to alter any behaviours with a new browser.

Sorry you feel this way. I've only ever tried to suggest things you could do to try and fix this on your PCs
Perhaps you can point out what I've done that you thing is condescending..

caver_timindeed. there may be two issues.
One with win10 which would also affect Edge and one with windows 8.1 which may be limited to Chrome

Gary GurniczAre you the Admin for a managed network (Business or Education)? Or are these devices all independent?
Try booting in Safe Mode with Networking (see attachment).. launch Chrome and see the same thing happens in this mode.

Gary GurniczIt is defined in the "Categories" at the bottom of the post.
Try downloading Canary Version, see if that works.
Canary runs independently of your Stable Version and has its own directory folders.

Gary GurniczHi all,
Is this happening only in Canary Version (as marked in original post)... Does it happen in Stable Chrome?

If you're talking about the the Windows on screen keyboard then try
- Select “Start” > “Settings“.
- Choose “Ease of Access“.
- Select “Keyboard“.
- Set “On-Screen Keyboard” to “On” or “Off” as desired.

Google userIt disappears when I close it, but if I click in another text box it reappears. It takes up half my screen. It is not the windows keyboard. It is only happening when I am in Chrome and click in a text box.

Dlight102I ditto this issue. I have not tried to reinstall Chrome yet, Running Version 68.0.3440.84 (Official Build) (64-bit). I have tried several suggestions on the web nothing is affecting the keyboard. There is a regedit to disable the touch keyboard, that is turned on. multiple settings have changed within chrome, even the chrome flags, resetting chrome, and starting a new profile. Keyboard only appears under chrome, no other windows application including IE. Also, a little tidbit... If the keyboard is on the screen and you click on a non-chrome window, the keyboard will close until you click on chrome again.

Dlight102A quick update: I just logged into a new profile with admin privileges. Same issues occurs. I uninstalled chrome, restarted the machine, logged into the new profile and reinstalled chrome from google.com. Issue still occurs. Not sure how much cleaner a install can get?

Dlight102WOO!! I can confirm it's finally fixed as well. Tested 2 Lenovo Miix 700s. "Version 70.0.3538.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)". I'll be updating my environment over the holiday weekend and will report if there are any issues remaining.
