Remove unwanted ads, block popups and get rid of Malware on Chrome

Hi,

Have you noticed your Chrome is behaving strangely in the following ways?:

  • Your default search engine, new tab page, other settings or extensions have changed without your consent.

  • You see unwanted ads in your search results or web pages.

  • Tabs or pop-ups are automatically opening and/or are impossible to close.

  • Your homepage keeps being reset to a website you didn’t set as your homepage.

  • You get messages stating that certain features like updating Chrome or removing an extension are “disabled by the administrator” but you’re using a personal computer.

Please visit our Help Center article, Stop unwanted ads, pop-ups or browser malware, to find out steps to fix the issue you are experiencing.

If you’re still running into issues after trying the help steps and the Chrome Cleanup Tool (Windows only), please click here to report malicious software. Additionally, if you provide us with the following information on this thread, we can investigate further:

  • Your version of Chrome. Check by going to chrome://version.

  • Your operating system (i.e. Mac, Windows, etc.) and the version.

  • Any relevant screenshots of pop-ups or unwanted redirects.

  • Any names of unwanted programs or extensions you’ve found on your computer.

  • A link to the page where you think you downloaded this unwanted software.

Best,

Kameron, Megan, and the Chrome Team

If the issue is common in all the web browsers then its adware. Download AdwCleaner and it works
After installing run a free scan and click on clean button.
A restart is required after the complete removal of adware.

I was plagued by endless advertisement sites opening for a fortnight. I finally found a solution. See bellow part of my email to Malwarebytes support below

"I tried your suggestion but the little devils were back almost immediately.

So I tried another tack....

1) I Downloaded Pale Moon browser.

2) I then de-installed Chrome and rebooted.

3) I ran adwcleaner and scanned with malwarebytes and removed what they found and then rebooted.

4) I ran cclean using it's own defaults and analysed first files and then the registry and all findings were deleted or fixed. Then I rebooted.

5) Finally I re-installed Chrome and re-customised it one tab at a time and one add-on at a time carrying out 30 minutes of normal work in between each addition.

6) For the last 3 days I have been totally free of all unwanted sites.

It would seem to indicate that all new software should be downloaded from the developer's site and from no other source. Some of the heuristic methods used by various AV suites are clearly way back down the curve."

Four days later and it seems all is well.

Good luck to all
