Strange Chinese characters in webpages?

Google Chrome version: n/a
Operating System: Windows 7
Error Message: n/a
Extensions installed: None

I keep having Chinese characters pop up all over the place while using chrome. It shows up seemingly randomly and sometimes just shows up where ads on sites are supposed to be, and sometimes it dominates the whole page! I cannot tell you my version of chrome because it shows up on about:version as well.

Examples:
http://twitpic.com/6k1pkw/full
http://twitpic.com/6k1i8k/full

I have no idea what this is and I can't seem to find anybody else with it... PLEASE help. It shows up on some important sites that are necessary for me to visit, but I obviously can't. Thank you!

The same thing is happening to me. I've submitted a couple bug reports about it. I've even had to switch to Firefox for certain tasks. At first it seemed to be just ads, and I suspected AdBlock, but it happens with AdBlock uninstalled. And now sometimes it's entire web pages.

Sometimes closing the tab and opening the address in a new tab will fix this problem, but usually not.

This is a known issue and we are working on a fix; you can follow this issue in our public issue tracker here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=98155

A fix should be pushed to dev next week as you can read in comment 63. This issue is not present in beta or canary if you would like to temporarily switch channels.

The issue isn't that it can't display Chinese characters properly, it's that Chinese characters are randomly taking over webpages that have nothing to do with anything Chinese.

Just to update everyone. I finally did solve this issue by changing my encoding to Western (Windows-1252} If you're not sure how to do this, a guide is here http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95416
Now extension options show up and everything is normal.
