How do I fix Google Chrome from becoming unresponsive and freezing

While I am in Facebook my Google Chrome Version 50.0.2661.94 m keeps freezing and i get the message box "these pages have become unresponsive to do you want too kill pages or wait". This problem has been happening with more frequency and it is very frustrating especially when you are filling out important forms online. I really need help on how to fix this browser problem or I may be forced to try another browser and I really like Chrome. The freezing seems to happen when more then  one tab is open.

I suggest pressing the kill button and refreshing the page. It will take the page back to it's original state.

Hey Susan,

Welcome to the Google Chrome Help Forum!

Please ensure you're running the latest version of Chrome by checking for available updates here and if necessary, update your Chrome.

Try using incognito mode and see if the issue persists. If incognito mode helps, one of your extensions could be the root cause of the problem. Disable Chrome extensions one by one by visiting chrome://extensions and uncheck Enabled for each extension.

Additionally, please try these steps and see if they help:

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Stella, I have the same issue - when I am browsing on any site (even this one), it freezes and I get the unresponsive - wait / kill pop-up.  This happens in incognito mode as well.  I cleared my browsing data, etc and then uninstalled and reinstalled  the latest version (50.0.2661.94 m) chrome and it made no difference. So now I'm in internet explorer...

Also having a similar problem.  It happens especially when opening a link that leads to a new tab: extensively in Facebook and msn.com.  This happens on both work and home computers.  Chrome becomes unresponsive and I get the kill or wait screen.  This happens multiple times in a row. Very annoying and frustrating.

Trusteer Apex is testing a patch for us.  So far it seems to fix Chrome.  (by not allowing it to work in Chrome?)   But makes IE 11 unresponsive and Firefox 46.01 have issues as well (in my testings).

Anyone else seeing IE11 issues?
