Start menu icons of Chrome apps

After updating Windows 10 to Windows 10 November Update (Threshold 2) all the icons in the Start menu for Chrome Apps or just links that are opened in a full screen Chrome window went missing. If I set an icon for a link again and re-pin it to Start menu, instead of chosen icon, Chrome default icon is shown.

You are not alone, same issue . Canary Version 48.0.2564.0 does not have this problem.

Hi T.M,

Welcome to the Google Chrome forum.

From what I can see, this may be some type of malware or virus that is effecting your Chrome browser. I would like you to go over these basic troubleshooting steps here:
  1. Create a new browser user profile
  2. Clear cache and cookies
  3. The Chrome Cleanup Tool for Windows
  4. Reset Chrome browser settings
  5. Try Downloading the Canary version of Chrome
  6. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best,
Yusuf

This issue is not caused by malware. This issue has been reported on various Windows 10 websites and elsewhere in the Chrome Help Forum. This issue started immediately after the Threshold 2 Win 10 update.

1. Creating a new user profile has no effect.
2. Clearing cache and cookies has no effect.
3. The Chrome Cleanup Tool reports nothing found.
4. Reset of Chrome settings has no effect.
5. Canary (48.0.2564.0) works as expected and does NOT have this issue. Issue appears in latest stable, dev, and beta versions. (32 vs 64 bit has also made no difference)
6. Uninstalling and reinstalling has no effect.

Robert,

I tried installing Canary Version and icons work as they should there. So I am just going to wait with stable Chrome edition, until the update comes.

Thanks!

To those who tried installing Canary, did the icons fix themselves, or was it necessary to remove and re-add the icons? I'm about to roll out a few machines and the icons definitely make it easier for end users to identify the apps quickly. I'm hoping I don't have to fiddle with Chrome once an update is released.

Same happened to me. I have an icon on the Start Menu, it looks like it is opening something but I can't even see the content, as it closes instantly.
