Rong JieHi all,
UPDATE: 25 April 2018
If you are already on Chrome 66 but do not see the dropdown, go to chrome://flags/enable-ntp-article-suggestions-expandable-header, enable it and restart the whole Chrome. The plan is to have this flag turned on by default soon.
UPDATE: 18 April 2018
Since Chrome 66 on Android, you can disable "Articles for you" by clicking the “Articles for you” dropdown in Chrome New Tab page and toggling the option off.
UPDATE: 4 February 2018
Since Chrome 64 on iOS, you can disable "Article for you" by disabling Settings > Article suggestion. This will not affect search suggestion. This option is not yet available on Android.
UPDATE: 12 November 2017
Since Chrome 61, you can disable "Article for you" by disabling Settings > Privacy > Search and site suggestions. Kindly ignore the outdated Best Answer above posted on 10 February 2017.
"Article for you" are suggested based on your https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity and your current location, not Google's own opinion.
The suggested articles are exactly the same as in Google Search App feed, so you can actually tune it so that the suggested articles can be more to your tastes instead of random local news and sports.
- Open Google Search App.
- Click menu icon > Customize.
- Add topics you want (Some ideas: technology, favourite movie actor etc.)
- Click Done (must click it or nothing will be saved).
Suggested articles in Google Search App should be updated immediately, Chrome will take a day to update.
Hope this is useful!
Cheers,
Rong Jie

AlexandreWell, thank you for your answer Cameron, what should we do to get a disable feature added ASAP? Not just for the news articles but also for all the "you just did this or that"! Hope ? Pray? This situation is so ridiculous, looks like some Google bureaucrat has decided to make users happy...

Lorraine HardyWell what other Internet can we use instead... its..disgusting.. mines displaying my downloads.. all of that content should be private at all times.. also I'm now seeing news items from my own town.. I just don't wanna know whose been raped and beaten up etc etc.. I don't buy the newspaper and reality celebs on there.. I don't want to see their lives or be made aware that they exist..

AlexandreYour new "Suggested articles" feature on Chrome for Android home page: even if I delete all items in History it will still show my downloaded files to anyone! Impossible to delete. Very shocking: you betray your users! And I want to turn this feature off, stop spamming me with unwanted content! I don't want you to spam me with disgusting Trump news!

Michael JesterYour suggestion does not work. I am using Win 10 and Chrome 69 .... I see no such Articles setting to disable. Google sucks. PLUS get the similar crap on my Android phones. Jesus I pray for any alternative OS other than Apple.
