Has anyone re enabled their 3rd party extensions this easy?

So I got a notification telling me my "ultimate youtube downloader" extension will be disabled because it may have been installed without my knowledge (yea ok google) and sure enough it was faded out grey and couldn't be checked off. I deleted it, went back to the developer website to download the crx file and opened the extensions page with developer mode checked off and dragged and dropped the file and POOF - my extension was no longer grayed out!

It is enabled for the moment and I would like to hope it will remain enabled. Thus bringing me to my question, has anyone else had their extensions that weren't from google grayed out and had to delete and re-install them to enable them again? And if so, was it a temporary fix or permanent?

Hi there,

Welcome to the Chrome Forum! I'll do my best to help.

Google rolled out a Chrome Web Store only policy. You may read about it here. I do believe it applies to this situation.

Please let me know if you have further questions!

The same happened to me. I paid for Internet protection and now Chrome won't let me use it. I need a way to re-enable it or I might have to use a different browser
For Win7:

1) download Chrome group policy templates here: http://dl.google.com/dl/edgedl/chrome/policy/policy_templates.zip
2) Copy [zip]\windows\chrome.admx to c:\windows\policydefinitions
3) Copy [zip]\windows\[yourlanguage]\chrome.adml to c:\windows\policydefinitions\[yourlanguage]\chrome.adml (not c:\windows\[yourlanguage])
4) In Chrome, go to Settings -> Extensions
5) Check the Developer Mode checkbox at the top
6) Scroll down the list of disabled extensions and note the ID's of the extensions you want to enable.  LogMeIn, for example, is ID: nmgnihglilniboicepgjclfiageofdfj
7) Click Start -> Run, and type gpedit.msc
8) Expand User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Google -> Google Chrome -> Extensions
9) Double-click to open "Configure extension installation whitelist"
10) Select "Enabled", then click "Show..."
11) In the list, enter all the ID's for the extensions you noted in Step 6
12) Click OK and restart Chrome.

The ZIP file don't have any "[zip]\windows\chrome.admx", only adm and adml extension!
Any Tip?
Great solution! Works perfectly!
