How To Block a Website on Google Chrome

Hi Chrome users,

Thanks for coming to the Chrome Community. There isn't a built-in feature to block websites in Google Chrome, however there are several 3rd party Chrome extensions that can help you do this. Feel free to use this thread to share your favorite extensions you've used for this purpose!

You may also be interested in our supervised users feature. With this feature, you can create another user and block certain sites for that user. This could be quite useful for parents to manage their children's browsing as the "manager" can see the supervised user's browsing history, block specific sites, and approve which sites the user can see.

Also, if you want to block a site because you suspect it has malware, you can report that site to us here: http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/.

thank you. I just submitted one through that link for a site that looks like a Java download but it's not. It keeps telling me to download this "free codec" pack. Its super annoying and comes up every time I go to a new page. Here's the url it comes from. Don't click on it or it'll download malware to your computer and you'll have the same problem I have.

Thanks, Tami

**edit, I (Sarah, Google chrome CM) deleted the link because I didn't want anyone to click on it accidentally or help its search results**

Same thing here Tami.

I've ran Combofix, Adaware, SpybotS&D, Spyhunter, AWSRemove, TDDS rootkit remover, and a hendful more. Keeps right on annoying the heck out of me.

I saw a thread where someone said it's a router infection, reset it. A couple people claimed that worked. Give it a try. I'm on a corporate so waiting for IT guy to do that here.

Post back results!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for reporting these sites. I took out the URLs from your posts to make sure users didn't click on them accidentally. But I reported them internally. Anyone can also report malware here:  http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/.

I wheezed my way through countless software browser add-ons you pointed me to, but didn't find one mentioning blocking technology or how to block a particular website. I did find a bunch of site names that give no clue to what they actually DO (God forbid they'd be up-front about it!)  I'll just manually block goofy website who find my email address. It's much easier, and less stressful that trying to figure out what each of the many suggested websites actually do.
