Sie_DeenHi everyone,
Super simple solution to this:
To disable autocomplete in your omnibox/address bar Ref[1]
1. Chrome menu --> Settings --> Show advanced settings... --> Privacy --> uncheck the box next to "Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar"

2. Clear browsing history (optional - only do this if you don't want to see matches from your browsing history). Ref[2]

richardkelleyI am having the same problem. The routine under Tools to disable the autocomplete function does nothing.

TobiFromBavariaClick on the wrench icon and select "Options". Go to the "Under the hood" options tab. Uncheck "Use a suggestion service...".

cgarTobi, I already unchecked "use a suggestion service" AND "show suggestions for navigation errors" but still, it's autocompleting for me :(

cgarI figured it out. After unchecking you'll still need to Clear Browsing Data -> for this period (choose everything). I guess the uncheck just stops adding urls, but the ones that are already there will keep appearing unless cleared.
thanks.

Google userIt doesn't work for me - and when I am typing a url even after completing purging the history I do not want to see my boomarks offered as a suggestion in a drop down - If I have recorded them as a bookmark I not that likely to continue to type the url manually - Beginning to think that Chrome has not been very well thought out yet they take it out of Beta while googlemail is still in beta - Publically name and shame these failed technicians

Koozhk KoozhkSie_Deen,
How ironic that you would mark your own answer as "best answer" when it has been downvoted to oblivion.
I, like most others here, still want suggestions in the omnibox, I just don't want them to autocomplete. I want them to be opt-in, not opt-out. This already works in the search box on google.com. Do not default to a suggested completion when I hit Enter, I should have to hit Down and then Enter to select a suggestion.
Why is this so difficult for you to understand? We don't want autocomplete to "not trigger so frequently" (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/Tlogm0rTyvI), we want control over how and when to trigger it. It's like having a backseat driver that "doesn't grab your steering wheel as often", it's not worth having them in the car. If they can keep their hands to themself, then their suggestions may be useful. DO NOT, under any circumstance, override my commands.
The issue is maybe phrased more directly over here (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/rPbfvDpSeHg), but all the activity is in this thread, so pay attention!
