Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#008)

The past 2 days while attempting to send emails from Gmail I keep getting the error:

Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#008)

Sometimes I get through after a few attempts.

I looked it up in the Faq section but even with my security turned off I get the same error.

Does anyone have a clue... is it me or are others experiencing this problem.

Thank you in advance.

By the way, I am located in S NJ and have verizon DSL and the problems started around 12/13. I wonder if the ice storms in the north east would have affected tyhe link. Again, this is a sporatic problem. SOmetimes it sends on the first try and sometimes I have to try to send a dozen times. I run XP and the problem persists with AV and firewall disabled.

Try to change ur firewall setting. If is is in low then change the setting to Medium. I think it will be sloved. :)

I have experienced this too.
The trouble shooting steps i took were
1) disable any anti virus, firewall program on your computer.
2) delete the cookies, temporary internet files, history.
3) try using https://mail.google.com
4) If you are behind a NAT device or firewall or modem ( try setting the MTU size to 1404), if you have got an option to do that.

I just had this problem and I tried sending it like 4 or 5 times. Then I just waited about a half hour and tried again and it worked. I don't think it's a settings or internet issue, but a gmail one. They could be doing some kind of maintenance at that particular time or a server could be down. I wish they would put something out about that tho.

I turned off the proxy settings in internet options and works fine now. i beleive its something to do with the firewall blocking the communication

Hope that helps

I had this same problem, just started happening out of the blue. I couldn't save the email draft or send it
all i did was logout of my account and log back in, and then it worked fine after that.

I was logged in as one user on Gmail and logged in as a different user on another Google software.
The fix was to log out of the 2nd program and log in to Gmail again.
