Chrome will no longer launch

Today I update Chrome to 51.0.2704.106, after trying to relaunch chrome to finish the update it will no long launch. I've tried reinstalling several times to no avail, and have been unable to find any successful fix on the internet. Other browsers still work fine. The debug file comes up with the error. [0717/162117:ERROR:main_dll_loader_win.cc(123)] Failed to load Chrome DLL from C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\51.0.2704.106\chrome.dll: Access is denied.

Hey David,

Welcome to the Google Chrome Help Forum, and thanks for posting!

Just to make sure we eliminate malware from the scenario, please follow the steps from this help article. If you’re using an antivirus or firewall software, make sure Chrome is trusted or allowed by these programs. You can also try temporarily disabling your antivirus or firewall to see if this resolves the issue.

In case you're still facing the same issue, please uninstall Chrome completely and reinstall it using alternate installer. If nothing else works, create a new user profile, and then download and run Chrome Canary.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Johnny

Levels

Member levels indicate a user's level of participation in a forum. The greater the participation, the higher the level. Everyone starts at level 1 and can rise to level 10. These activities can increase your level in a forum:

  • Post an answer.
  • Having your answer selected as the best answer.
  • Having your post rated as helpful.
  • Vote up a post.
  • Correctly mark a topic or post as abuse.

Having a post marked and removed as abuse will slow a user's advance in levels.
