Set your default search engine & site search shortcuts

You can use the address bar (omnibox) as a search box. It automatically uses Google, but you can set another default search engine instead.

If you notice unexpected changes in your search engine, you might have malware. Learn how to remove malware.

Set your default search engine

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. Tap More More and then Settings Settings.
  3. Tap Search engine.
  4. Select the search engine you want to use.

Recently visited and used search engines may be added as options for your default search engine.

Using Google as your default search engine

When Google is your default search engine, your location is used for your searches in the address bar and on Google. Learn more about sharing your location.

To stop using your location in searches, turn off Chrome's access to your location:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Find and tap Chrome.
  3. Tap Location and then Never.
