Set your default search engine & site search shortcuts

You can use the address bar (omnibox) as a search box. It automatically uses Google, but you can set another default search engine instead.

If you notice unexpected changes in your search engine, you might have malware. Learn how to remove malware.

Set your default search engine

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. Under "Basics," tap Search engine.
  4. Select the search engine you want to use.

Recently visited search engines will be added as options for your default search engine.

Using Google as your default search engine

When Google is your default search engine, your location is used for your searches in the address bar and on Google. Learn more about sharing your location.

  2. Visit a Google search page, like google.com.
