Uninstall Google Chrome

You can remove Chrome by following the steps below. Select “Windows,” “Mac” or “Linux” to see the steps for the type of computer that you're using.

Windows instructions

You can remove Google Chrome like any other Windows programme.

Uninstall Chrome in Windows XP

  1. Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
  2. Go to the Start menu > Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programmes.
  4. Double-click Google Chrome.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialogue. If you want to delete your user profile information, such as your browser preferences, bookmarks and history, select the "Also delete your browsing data" checkbox.

Uninstall Chrome in Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8

  1. Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
  2. Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control Panel)
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Double-click Google Chrome.
  5. Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialogue. If you want to delete your user profile information, such as your browser preferences, bookmarks and history, select the "Also delete your browsing data" tick box.

Did the browser come packaged with other software on your computer? If so, your version of Google Chrome may be installed system-wide and you'll need to log in to a user account with administrative rights on your computer to uninstall the browser. Uninstalling a system-wide version of Google Chrome removes the browser for all user accounts on your computer.

Uninstall Chrome in Mac
  1. Go to the folder containing the Google Chrome application on your computer.
    Tip: It may be in your Applications folder. If not, try searching your computer for "Google Chrome" (press Apple Command KeyF).
  2. Drag Google Chrome into the bin.
  3. If you added Google Chrome to your Dock, simply drag it off the Dock.

If you want to delete your Chrome user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks and history from your computer, follow these additional steps:

  1. In the Mac menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go.
  2. Select Go to Folder.
  3. Type ~/Library/Google.
  4. Click Go.
  5. Drag the folder GoogleSoftwareUpdate into the bin
Uninstall Chrome in Linux
  1. Go to Applications > Debian > Applications > System > Package Management > Synaptic Package Manager.
  2. Search for "Google Chrome" in the list of packages.
  3. Select the "Google Chrome package" tick box.
  4. To completely uninstall (including configuration files), select "Mark for Complete Removal". To uninstall while saving your preferences, select "Mark for Removal".
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Select Google Chrome from the "To be completely removed" menu.
  7. Click Apply.
