Troubleshoot Installer
To troubleshoot Installer, find your issue below and follow the steps.
If you can’t download Chrome, you can use offline installers.
- Select an installer for Chrome:
- Open the file.
- Follow the instructions to complete your installation.
- If you have issues installing, visit the Chrome Help Center.
After installing, Chrome will try to update when there’s a newer version.
If it doesn’t update automatically, follow the steps above to manually download newer versions of Chrome.
Check for Google Chrome releases.If you install an application for the first time and you get one of these errors, report this issue in the app’s Help Forum.
If you get an error after you install an app:
- Visit Microsoft Fix it.
- Click Run now.
- Follow the instructions to fix the problem.
If you can’t connect because of firewall, anti-virus software, or proxy.
To fix, add the firewall, anti-virus software, or proxy to your security software's exceptions list. If you use Windows firewall, follow these steps:
- On your Windows taskbar, click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
- Select “Exceptions."
- Click Add Program > Browse
- On the left, select My Computer.
- Click Local Disk (C:).
- Open Documents and Settings.
- Open the folder with your username.
- Click Local Settings > Application Data > Google > Update.
- Select the folder with the highest number.
- Select “googleupdate.exe.”
If you use other firewall software, visit the software company’s website to learn how to add it to your exceptions list.
If you can’t connect because Windows XP is not updated
To fix, update to Windows XP Service Pack 2.
If you can’t connect because of unsupported proxy server
Check if you’re on a supported proxy:
- Negotiate authentication scheme, including Kerberos and NTLM.
- Proxies using “integrated authentication,” if the person is allowed to use that proxy.
The computer’s Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) doesn’t start
Make sure BITS is turned on:
- In your Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Select Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
- Click Background Intelligent Transfer Service > Properties from the menu.
- In the “General” section, check if ”Startup” is set to ”Automatic” or ”Manual.” Make sure this setting is not disabled.
If you continue to have issues, check if you can edit:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\
To get edit access:
- Right-click the folder.
- Select Properties.
- In ‘General," check "Read-only."
- Click OK.
To fix this issue:
- On your Windows taskbar, click Start > Run
- In the "Run" window, enter
regedit. - Click OK.
- In the "Registry Editor" window, open: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\Update\Clients\.
- In the "Registry Editor" window, open: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Google\Update\Clients\.
- Right-click {430FD4D0-B729-4F61-AA34-91526481799D}.
- In the menu, select Delete.
- Close "Registry Editor."
- Install the application again.
GoogleCrashHandler.exe sends information about crashes to Google when they affect your Google applications.
If you don’t want to send crash information to Google, turn off the sending of usage statistics for your computer.
Check the application’s Help Center for more information.If you get the “OS not supported” error, it may be because Installer does not support your operating system.
Check if your operating system is currently supported.To check if you're an administrator:
- On your Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
- Enter:
control userpasswords2 - Click OK.
- Check if your username has the “Administrators Group.”
