Fix problems with Chrome sync

If you see a sync error or if new changes aren't showing up on your other devices, you can take steps to fix the problem.

If your startup page, homepage, or search engine has suddenly changed, you might have unwanted software. Find out how to find and remove malware from your computer and get your settings back.

Fix a sync error

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. At the top right, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. At the top, tap your name.
  4. Tap Sync.
  5. Next to "Sync isn't working," follow the instructions.

You don't see a sync error

If your bookmarks, search history, or other browsing data aren't syncing properly, but you don't see an error message, try turning sync off and back on.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. At the top right, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. At the top, tap your name.
  4. Tap Sync.
  5. Turn off Sync.
  6. Open the Settings app Settings.
  7. Tap Apps and then Chrome.
  8. Tap Force stop and then OK.
  9. Open the Chrome app Chrome.
  10. At the top right, tap More More and then Settings.
  11. At the top, tap your name.
  12. Tap Sync.
  13. Turn on Sync.

If the steps above don't work, check the Android sync setting on your device.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. At the top right, tap More More.
  4. Make sure the box next to "Auto-sync data" is checked.
