Microsoft Silverlight plug-in

Silverlight is a plug-in powered by the .NET framework that lets you view certain types of rich media, such as high quality videos or interactive web apps, in your browser. Some websites require the plug-in to properly display their content.

Install Silverlight

Windows instructions

  1. Download the Silverlight installer from Microsoft.
  2. When the download is complete, click the installer in the downloads bar at the bottom of Chrome.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Silverlight.
  4. Windows User Account Control might appear and ask you for permission to install. If you don’t have administration privileges on the computer, please contact your system administrator to finish installation.

  5. Select “Enable Microsoft Update” checkbox to make sure the plug-in stays updated.

Mac instructions

  1. Download the Silverlight installer from Microsoft.
  2. When the download is complete, click the installer in the downloads bar at the bottom of Chrome.
  3. Double-click the installer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Enable or disable Silverlight plug-in

The Silverlight plug-in is enabled by default. You can enable or disable the plug-in at chrome:plugins.

  1. Type chrome:plugins in the address bar.
  2. Find Silverlight:
    • Click Disable to stop the plug-in from running.
    • Click Enable to re-enable the plug-in.
