Sign in to Chrome

This article applies to Chrome for Mobile.

When you sign in to Chrome with your Google Account, you can take advantage of several time-saving services:

  • Sync lets you access your Chrome bookmarks, browsing history, autofill data, saved passwords, and open tabs from other devices where you’re also signed in.
  • Chrome to Mobile lets you send webpages from your computer to your mobile device with one click.
  • Auto sign-in helps you sign in to Google apps and services with a touch of a button. No need to type your username and password.

Chrome for Android

If you're not on the sign-in services screen, touch Chrome menu > Settings > your email address to manage your sign-in options.

Sign in to Chrome

  1. Touch Chrome menu > Settings > Sign in to Chrome.
  2. Choose the account you want to use and touch Sign in.

If you’ve previously encrypted your data, you’ll be prompted to enter your password.

If you see a sync error notification, try to troubleshoot your sync issue.

Customize sync settings

On the Services screen, touch Sync to adjust your settings.

  • Use the blue slider at the top of the screen to enable or disable the service.
  • If you don't want to sync everything, deselect the Sync everything checkbox and choose the data you'd like to sync.
  • Touch Encryption to choose whether to use your Google Account password or a custom passphrase to protect your data.
  • Touch Reset sync to remove synced data from your account. If you've forgotten your sync passphrase, use this option to reset the passphrase.

To fully take advantage of this feature, make sure you're signed in to Chrome on other devices, such as your computer or tablet.

Using Chrome to Mobile

To use this service, make sure you select the Chrome to Mobile checkbox on your mobile device and add the Chrome to Mobile Beta extension on your computer. Learn more about Chrome to Mobile

Sign out of Chrome

Signing out of Chrome will stop syncing, but data stored on your mobile device and in your Google Account will not be deleted. However, any new data or changes you make on your mobile device will not be synced to your account going forward. 

  1. Touch Chrome menu > Settings > your email address > Disconnect Google Account.
  2. In the confirmation dialog that appears, touch Disconnect.

Chrome for iOS

If you're not on the sign-in services screen, touch Chrome menu > Settings > your email address to manage your sign-in options.

Sign in with your Google Account

  1. Touch Chrome menu > Settings > Sign in to Chrome.
  2. Enter your Google Account credentials. 

If you have 2-step verification, you'll need to enter your application-specific password. Also, if you’ve previously encrypted your data, you’ll be prompted to enter your password.

Once you're signed in to Chrome you can add additional accounts and switch between them.

  1. Touch Chrome menu > Settings > your email address.
  2. Touch Manage Accounts > Add account.
  3. Enter your Google account credentials.
  4. Select the newly added account.
  5. In the confirmation dialog that appears select Clear Data Before Syncing or Merge Data.
    • "Clear Data Before Syncing" keeps the Chrome data for each account separate.
    • "Merge Data" merges the Chrome data from all accounts.
Learn how to remove your account from Chrome

Removing your account from Chrome will stop sync and disconnect your account across other Google apps and services on your device.

  1. Touch Chrome menu > Settings > your email address.
  2. Touch Manage Accounts > Manage.
  3. Touch the x next to the Google Account you want to sign out of. 
  4. In the confirmation dialog that appears, touch Remove.

If you see a sync error notification, try to troubleshoot your sync issue.

Using Chrome to Mobile

To use this service, use the blue slider to set "Chrome to Mobile" On from your mobile device and add the Chrome to Mobile Beta extension on your computer. Learn more about Chrome to Mobile

Customize sync settings

On the Services screen, touch Advanced to adjust your settings.

To fully take advantage of this feature, make sure you're signed in to Chrome on other devices, such as your computer or tablet.

  1. Touch the blue slider next to "Sync" to turn it ON or OFF
  2. If you don't want to sync everything, slide to OFF and choose the data you'd like to sync.
  3. Touch Encryption to choose whether to use your Google Account password or a custom passphrase to protect your data.
  4. Touch Reset sync to remove synced data from your account. If you've forgotten your sync passphrase, use this option to reset the passphrase.
