Use tabs in Chrome for mobile

You can open as many tabs as you want in Chrome and close them when you’re done. You can also view all tabs and switch between them.

On Android phones and iPhones, you can refresh the screen with a single swipe.

Open and close tabs

Android phone (4.4 or lower)

Open a new tab

  1. In the upper right corner of your screen, click the Chrome menu Menu.
  2. Touch New tab.

Close a single tab

  1. In the upper right corner of your screen, touch the box that has a number inside of it.
  2. In the upper right corner of the tab you want to close, touch X. You can also touch the tab you want to close, then swipe left.

Close all tabs

  1. In the upper right corner of your screen, touch the box that has a number inside of it. You will see all of your open tabs.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen, open the Chrome menu Menu.
  3. Touch Close All Tabs.
Android (5.0 and higher)

Open a new tab

  1. In the upper right corner of your screen, open the Chrome menu Menu.
  2. Touch New tab.

Close a single tab

  1. In the lower right corner of your screen, touch the tab switcher icon Tabs. On Samsung phones, go to the lower left corner of your screen and touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Touch the tab you want to close, then swipe left. Or in the upper right corner of the tab you want to close, touch X. It may take a few seconds for the X to show up in each window.
iPhone

Open a new tab

  1. Open the Chrome menu Menu.
  2. Touch New Tab.

Or

  1. From the top of the screen, swipe down and to the left in an L shape towards the +.
  2. When the + is selected, lift your finger and a new tab will open automatically.

Close a single tab

  1. Touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. In the upper right corner of the tab you want to close, touch X. Or you can also swipe to the left on the tab.

Or

  1. From the top of the screen, swipe down and to the right in an L shape toward the X.
  2. When the X is selected, lift your finger and the tab will close automatically.

Close all tabs

  1. Touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Open the Chrome menu Menu.
  3. Choose Close All Tabs.
Android tablet or iPad

Open a new tab

Next to your open tab(s), touch the new tab icon .

Close tabs

On any tab you want to close, in the upper right corner, touch X.

View tabs

Android phone (4.4 or lower)
  1. In the upper right corner of your screen, touch the box that has a number inside of it.
  2. Touch any tab you’d like to see.
Android (5.0 and higher)
  1. In the lower right corner of your screen, touch the tab switcher icon Tabs. On Samsung phones, go to the lower left corner of your screen and touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Touch any tab you’d like to see.
iPhone
  1. In the upper right corner of the screen, touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Touch any tab you’d like to see.

Touch the tab you'd like to see.

Switch to a new tab

Android phone (4.0 or lower)
  1. In the upper right corner of the screen, touch the box that has the number inside of it.
  2. Scroll up or down.
  3. Touch the tab you want to switch to.
Android phone (5.0 and higher)
  1. In the lower right corner of your screen, touch the tab switcher icon Tabs. On Samsung phones, go to the lower left corner of your screen and touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Scroll up or down.
  3. Touch the tab you want to switch to.
iPhone
  1. Touch the tab switcher icon .
  2. Scroll up or down.
  3. Touch the tab you want to switch to.
Android tablet or iPad

Switch tabs

Simply touch the tab you want to switch to.

Reorder tabs

  1. Touch and hold the tab that you want to move.
  2. Drag the tab to a different position.

Refresh tabs

iPhone and iPad
  1. From the top of the screen, swipe down the center.
  2. In the center of the screen, touch Refresh.
Android

From the top of the screen, swipe down the center.
