Search the web in Chrome

You can quickly find what you’re looking for on the Internet, in your bookmarks, and in your browsing history. A Chrome feature might not be available if your default search engine doesn't support it.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top, in the address bar, enter your search.
  3. Select a result or press Enter.

Tip: As you enter your search, you may get suggestions based on your web and app activity. You can delete suggestions from your search history or hide sections of suggestions based on your activity when they appear. Learn more about your activity.

Search within a page

You can find a specific word or phrase on a web page on your computer.

  1. On your computer, open a page in Chrome.
  2. At the top right, select More More and then Find and edit and then Find....
  3. In the search window, enter your search term.
  4. Press Enter to search the page.
    • Matches are highlighted in yellow. In the scrollbar on the right, yellow markers show where the matches are located on the page.

Tip: You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + f (Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS) or + f (Mac) to find a word or phrase quickly.
Search for words

You can find more info about a specific word or phrase on a page.

  1. On your computer, open a page in Chrome.
  2. Highlight a word or phrase.
    • On a PC: Right-click the highlighted content.
    • On a Mac: Hold Ctrl and click the highlighted content.
  3. Click the option to search with your default search engine. For example, you might find an option like "Search Google for emperor penguin."

Tips:

  • You can translate to your preferred language or get the definition when you select a word or phrase.
  • You can convert units when you select a number.
