When you create a passkey for the first time on a computer, iPhone, or iPad, a Google Password Manager PIN is created.
You can use a Google Password Manager PIN to:
- Help you to use your passkeys on a new device.
- Make sure that no one, not even Google, can access your encrypted data.
- Verify it’s you with your passkeys.
On an Android device, you can’t create or reset a Google Password Manager PIN. You can do so from an iPhone or iPad, Chromebook, or computer where you're signed into Chrome with your Google Account.
On an Android device, instead of the PIN, to access your saved passwords and passkeys, Google Password Manager uses your device's screen lock, like:
- Password
- Pattern
- PIN
Important: There’s no option to change your Google Password Manager PIN on Android devices.
If you save your first passkey to Google Password Manager from an Android device, to unlock your passkeys, you can use your Android screen lock like:
- PIN
- Pattern
- Password
If you forget your Google Password Manager PIN, you can reset it on the device where it was originally created, like:
- Computer
- iOS device
