Use voice recognition to type (beta)

You can speak instead of typing into any text box that contains this microphone icon mic. Simply click the microphone icon or place the cursor in the text box and press Ctrl+Shift+. (period) (Mac: ⌘-Shift-. (period)). For example, check out voice search on


Make sure your computer has a working microphone. While some laptops and desktops have built-in microphones, others require external ones. You should be able to test the microphone in your computer's audio settings in system preferences or control panel.

By default, recognitions containing offensive words are replaced with asterisks (*). You can change the behavior by right-clicking the microphone icon. Select Voice recognition options from the menu that appears, then deselect Block offensive words.
