You can make desktop mode or mobile mode a default setting on your phone or tablet. You can also customize these settings for specific sites.
Connect your Android device to a large screen for a desktop browser experience. The interface and websites adapt automatically, with a seamless, standard computer environment. You can:
- Access a full toolbar and tab strip that adjusts for your monitor.
- By default, view the full desktop version of websites on devices with 8GB or more RAM.
- Manage and arrange over 20 windows simultaneously across all connected displays.
Change the default settings on your Android device
You can manage how websites shows on different screens through your settings:

On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- On the right of the address bar, tap More
Settings.
- Under “Advanced,” select Site settings
Desktop site.
- To allow the browser to choose the view based on your screen size, tap Default view.
- Select your preferred setting:
- Default view: Based on screen size and device’s RAM, Chrome selects mobile or desktop versions.
- Mobile site: Always request the mobile version of a site.
- Desktop site: Always request the desktop version of a site.
Tip: To change the view for a specific website, tap the More
Desktop site.
To customize your non-default settings for specific sites:
- On your Android device, open Chrome
.
- On the right of the address bar, tap More
Settings.
- Under “Advanced,” select Site settings
Desktop site
+ ADD SITE EXCEPTION.
- Enter the site’s URL.
Tip: You can also add a site to the exception list when you select More
Desktop site.
Troubleshooting
If a website doesn’t show in desktop mode:
- Tap More
and make sure “Desktop site,” is turned on to Request Desktop View.
- Automatic desktop site selection requires 8GB RAM. Devices with less memory default to mobile sites.
- If you change a setting, refresh the page to find the updated version.
Tip: To change a specific website's view, you may need to manually click the Desktop view as these often override your browser’s general preferences.
