Manage Chrome Side panel

In the side panel of your computer, you can find:

  • Reading list
  • Bookmarks
  • History
  • Google Search and more
Manage Side panel
  • To resize side panel: On the side of the panel, select and hold Drag .
  • To change the location of the side panel:
    1. On your computer, open Chrome.
    2. Select More More and then Settings and then Appearance.
    3. Under "Side panel," select the side you want the panel to open.
  • To close side panel: At the top right, select Close Close.
Pin & unpin a specific Side panel

You can pin a specific side panel in Chrome. You can pin:

  • Search
  • Reading list
  • Bookmarks
  • History
  • Reading mode

Pin a specific Side panel

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to a website.
  3. At the top right, select More More.
  4. To pin:
    • Google Search: Select Search this page with Google.
    • Reading list: Select Bookmarks and lists and then Reading list and then Show reading list.
    • Bookmarks: Select Bookmarks and lists and then Show all bookmarks.
    • History: Select History and then Grouped history.
    • Reading mode: Select More tools and then Reading mode.
  5. Next to the icon name, click Pin to toolbar Pin.
    • To the left of Profile Profile, Google Search , Bookmark , Reading mode , Reading list , or History  becomes available.

Unpin a specific Side panel

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. To the left of Profile Profile, you can select:
    • Search 
    •  Reading list 
    •  Bookmarks 
    •  History 
    •  Reading mode 
  3. Next to the icon name, select Unpin from toolbar .

Tip: You can also right-click on an icon and select Unpin.

Search web pages with Google Search side panel

With the Google Search side panel, you can access more information about the sites that you browse and the search tools that you use.

While on a site, open the Google Search side panel to know key points from articles and other web pages.

To search a web page with the Google Search side panel:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to a website.
  3. At the top right, select More More and then Search this page with Google.
    • To learn more about the text and images that you find, enter keywords from the web page.
