How can you download the Extended Stable channel version of Chrome
1
We manage our Google Chrome updates via Microsoft's configuration manager.  In doing this, we will download the MSI from the download page - Download Chrome Browser for Your Business - Chrome Enterprise.  Then we package up the MSI and send it via CM.

With the new Extended Stable channel version, we would like to move to this with our current method, but I can't seem to find a way to download the MSI for this.  It looks like the only MSI you can get is for the current stable build.  Anyone have any information on where we could get the MSI for the extended stable version?

Hi,

We would also like to use the extended stable channel but can't find anyway of downloading the MSI file.

Can Extended Stable only be updated via the Google Chrome updater, as due to security restrictions in our environment, we cannot use the Chrome updater built into Chrome. We can only update Chrome by creating installing packages form the MSI and distributing via SCCM.

many thanks,
Steve

Hi Eric,

Thank you for reaching out to the Chrome Enterprise Help Community!

If you manually update or test new releases of Chrome, you can use the existing "TargetChannel" policy instead to switch Chrome to an extended stable channel. Instructions on how to apply the necessary policy can be found here.

It's recommended that you test the extended stable channel on a small set of machines or organizational units before deploying it on your entire fleet. For your reference, here's a detailed guide on managing Chrome Browser updates on Windows computers.

Hope this is helpful.

Best,
Brad

Hello,

We're dealing with the same issue here. But what's even more confusing is that the Extended Stable channel value is completely missing in the adm files (even though we have the latest ones); it's not even mentioned within the files (neither in the descriptions, nor in XML). Is it active at all yet?

Edge announced an "Extended Stable" channel as well a few weeks ago, and they already had the official documents in place to guide this process, but in Edge's case it didn't work yet either. Contacted Microsoft about it and they told me that the feature was indeed not available yet and that the announcement and release of the official documentation about the new channel was a bit too early. As of this week it finally seems to be functional now (managed to get it to work for Edge), but Google Chrome still not. Am I missing something?

Hey Ronald,

If you decide to move to the extended stable channel you can do so by setting the Target Channel to extended in Group Policy as explained in this article. Please refer to "Set Chrome browser to a specific release channel" section for instructions.

Brad
