How to bypass NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID error

Hi!
As of today I lost access to our internal websites (192.168.....) due to NET:ERR_CERT_INVALID error popping up on my browser while accessing them. The error doesn't allow me to access the website. Is there any possibility to bypass chromes security settings? It's painful to be a user who understands security risks and still can't access a website which he knows is safe..

Hi Winyl and Melissa,

Thanks for posting on the Google Chrome Help Forum.

Could you confirm if you are on domain or a manage system? If yes, are you the administrator? If yes, please confirm so that I can move your post to the appropriate for further help.

If not, please contact the administrator for further assistance.

If that is not the case, please check if you face this issue when you use another browser as well. If the issue is specific to Chrome, does this happen on other websites as well? In the meantime, please give these suggestions a try:

  1. Does the issue persist in incognito mode?

  2. Clearing cache and cookies can be useful.

  3. Just to make sure we eliminate malware from the scenario, please follow the steps from this help article.

  4. Try resetting the Chrome browser to see if that helps.

If the issue still persists, please check if using the same device on another network makes a difference.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Tina

Hello Tina,
I'm on domain system (Active Directory) and I'm the admin. Also - the same thing happened on edge and internet explorer. I disabled auto-update on firefox, because I'm afraid that I'll loose access to some of my systems, which are managed only via www.
There is no mallware (scanned with Eset, Mbam), no new extensions installed, going incognito or clearing cache and cookies didn't help.

Hi Winyl,

Thanks for posting back.

As you are the administrator, I'll move your post to the Chrome Browser Administrator Forum for further help.

Best,
Tina

Maybe you have the SSLErrorOverrideAllowed policy set on your browser otherwise you should be able to use the "advanced" link and proceed. However you should try to figure out what is wrong with those sites - are the certs invalid because they are expired or self-signed. If you are using your own certs and you are an admin you should be able to push those as trusted certs to your user machines and thus make them properly trusted internally.

I am also having this issue but only with gmail and google.  I have tried many things including just going to outlook.com, changing the clock, clearing cache, etc.  Nothing works.  Julian, are you suggesting Googles certificates have expired?

I'm also having this issue with a company's internal-use-only certificates.  I've installed the root and intermediate certificates onto all domain computers, but Chrome still says NET::ERR_CERT_INVALID.  Our certificates are issued by AD Certificate Services 2012 R2, if that matters.  This server is internal and IPv4-only, so I can't just run it through SSL Labs.

One of the workarounds is to bypass the certificate errors. I'm using OS X, and sudo ./Google\ Chrome --ignore-certificate-errors &> /dev/null in the application directory of Chrome does the trick.

Note: Not recommended for any important transactional browsing.

There's a secret passphrase built into the error page.  Just make sure the page is selected (click anywhere on the background), and type thisisunsafe

Of course you should only use this bypass when you know exactly what you are doing, and indeed connecting to internal private systems is a valid use.

Note this passphrase has been different in the past (danger then badidea) and it may change again in the future.

Hi

I'm using Chrome 70.0.xxxx for Windows 7 SP1 64 bit and I'm having problems with the self-certificates.

On a LAN, I have a hardware firewall with OPNsense 18.7.x 64 bit as the operating system.

Since I would like to access its web interface through the https protocol, I created a root and an intermediate self-certificate and imported them into the respective Windows 7 certificate archives.

Now, I can access its webGUI without problems with IE 11.x 64 bit but with Chrome I have some problems on the certificate validity as you can see from the attachment. How come?

So, with Chrome, how do I access this webGUI using the https protocol?

Thanks

Please file this as a bug on http://crbug.com - the network engineers will be able to see it and respond there if this is a bug or if you are missing something around the cert installation.
