Migrate from Cloud Print

Google Cloud Print was deprecated in January of 2021 and is no longer supported.

Devices across all operating systems will not be able to print using Google Cloud Print. We recommend that you find an alternative print solution and migrate your print services.

Recommended printing options

  • Printing (CUPS) for ChromeOS devices.
  • For other devices or multi-OS scenarios, we recommend the respective platform’s printing infrastructure or working with a printing partner.
Printing (CUPS) for ChromeOS devices

For ChromeOS devices, you can use your Google Admin console to set up CUPS for printing to local and network printers. See Manage local and network printers.

Similar to Cloud Print, you can manage printers for your users. This includes:

  • User-printing defaults for 2-sided and color printing.
  • User account and file name in the IPP header of print job included over a secure IPPS connection. This enables third-party printing features, such as secure printing and print-usage tracking.
  • Set-up of advanced printing attributes such as stapling, input and output paper trays, and pin printing.
  • PIN-code printing management. This allows users to enter a PIN when sending a print job and release the print job for printing when they enter a PIN on the printer.
Note: PIN printing is only supported over a HTTPS or a secure IPPS connection.
  • Extension APIs for third-parties to access print job metadata and submit print jobs.

For details on configuring printing policies, see Set Chrome policies for users and browsers.

Upcoming printing (CUPS) features

Available before the Google Cloud Print deprecation

  • Support for external CUPS print servers, including authentication.
  • Policy to configure connections to external CUPS print servers.
  • APIs to provide printer-management capabilities.
Printing partners

In addition to printing, you can use the printing services provided by a printing partner. Follow the links below to learn more about our printing partners.

To set up the printing services provided by a printing partner using the Admin console, see Setup printing with a printing partner.
