Use the Asana app in Google Chat

Use the Asana app in Chat to get notifications about updates to Asana tasks.

Before you begin

• You need permission to install apps from your Google Workspace administrator.
• Add the app to Chat. Learn how to find apps and add them to Chat.
• You need an Asana account.

Set up the Asana app in Chat

1. Open the Chat app .
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. To sign in to your Asana account, tap Sign in to Asana.
   • The configuration window opens.
4. Under Choose workspace, to use the workspace, tap the down arrow .
   • Select the Asana workspace.
5. Under Choose project, to get notifications, tap the down arrow .
   • Select the Asana project.
6. Under the Thread messages by menu, choose an option:
   • No threads
   • Threaded by project
   • Threaded by task
7. To get the notifications of the items in Chat, tick the boxes next to the items.
8. Tap Save.
9. Optional: To add another project, tap Add.

Tip: You need to set up notifications in each space where you add the app. The app sends notifications to all spaces where it's a member.

Change app settings

1. Open the Chat app .
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. Enter settings.
   • In spaces, enter @Asana settings or /Asana settings.
   • The current settings for the app open.
4. Tap Edit settings.
   • The settings page opens.
5. Tap Edit .
6. Change the settings as needed.
7. Tap Save.

Once the app is removed from a space, the app settings get deleted.
