Asana app for Google Chat

Use the Asana app in Chat to get notifications about updates to Asana tasks.

Before you begin

Set up the Asana app in Chat

  1. Open Chat.
  2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
  3. Click Sign in to Asanaand thensign in to your Asana account.
    The configuration window opens.
  4. Under Choose workspace, click the down arrow and select the Asana workspace that you want to use.
  5. Under Choose project, click the down arrow and select the Asana project to get notifications for.
  6. Under Thread messages by, select:
    • No threads
    • Threaded by project
    • Threaded by task
  7. Tick the boxes for the items that you want to get notifications about in Chat.
  8. Click Save
  9. (Optional) To add another project, click Add.
You need to set up notifications in each space where you add the app. The app sends notifications to all spaces where it's a member.

Change app settings

In spaces, only the person who added the app can change the settings.

  1. Open Chat.
  2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
  3. Enter settings. In spaces, enter @Asana settings.
    The current settings for the app appear.
  4. Click Edit settings.
    The settings page opens.
  5. Click Edit and thenchange the settings as needed.
  6. Click Save

Removing the app from a space deletes the app settings.

Using the app in spaces

To use the app in spaces, you need to explicitly @mention the app in each message to the app (including in replies to messages from the app). The @mention confirms that you're sending the message to the app and not to others in the space.
