Jira app for Google Chat

Use the Jira app in Chat to get messages about updates to your Jira Software projects. The app sends messages from Jira to Chat.

Before you begin

  • You need permission from your Google Workspace administrator to install apps.
  • You need to add the app to Chat.
Learn how to find apps and add them to Chat.
  • Using your Jira administrator privileges, install the Chat Jira plugin from the Atlassian Marketplace.

Set up the Jira app in Chat

  1. Open Chat.
  2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
  3. Enter domain.atlassian.net, where domain is your Jira cloud site. In spaces, enter @Jira domain.atlassian.net.
  4. Click Configure.
    The configuration window opens.
  5. Under Choose Project, click the Down arrow "" and select the Jira project to get notifications for.
  6. Under Thread messages by, select Thread by project or Thread by issue.
  7. Check the boxes for the items you want to get notifications about in Chat.
  8. Click Save.
You need to set up notifications in each space where you add the app. The app sends notifications to all spaces where it's a member.

Change app settings

  1. Open Chat.
  2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
  3. Enter configure. In spaces, enter @Jira configure.
    The settings page opens.
  4. Change the settings as needed.
  5. Click Save.

Delete app settings

  1. Open Chat.
  2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
  3. Enter delete config. In spaces, enter @Jira delete config.

Removing the app from a space deletes the app settings.

Using the app in spaces

To use the app in spaces, you need to explicitly @mention the app in each message to the app (including in replies to messages from the app). The @mention confirms you're sending the message to the app and not to others in the space.
