If you make a mistake or need to update a message, you can edit or delete the message.
When you edit a message:
- You can’t go back to the previous edit or the original message.
- Chat notifications may include the original message.
When you delete a message:
- The message is permanently removed from your Google Account and can’t be recovered.
- You can’t undo the message deletion.
Edit a sent message
- On your computer, go to Google Chat.
- Open a conversation, such as a direct message, group direct message, or space.
- Hover over the message you want to edit.
- Click Edit

- Make your changes.
- Click Update.
Delete a sent message
- On your computer, go to Google Chat.
- Open a conversation, such as a direct message, group direct message, or space.
- Hover over the message you want to delete.
- Click More
Delete
.
- To confirm, click Delete.

- You can delete messages from apps, but you can’t edit them.
- If you use a personal account, you can’t delete messages when:
- You’re in a space a different organization started.
- You send a direct or group message to a Google Workspace account.
