Frequently asked questions:

Why don't I have the option to invite phone participants?

If you're outside the US and don't see this option, it's probably because you’re in a country where the feature hasn't yet been made available. We're working on making this feature more widely available, and we appreciate your patience.

How many phone participants can I invite?

You and other participants in the video call can each invite up to 9 phone participants, but the maximum number of phone participants per Hangout is 10.

How do I mute a phone participant?

Only the person who dialled in can mute their own phone. A person can't mute another participant on the call.

Does making a phone call in a video call mean that I have a Google Voice account?

If you don't already have a Google Voice account, making outbound phone calls through Hangouts doesn't automatically give you a full Google Voice account. The initial Google Voice account that's created when making phone calls from within a video call doesn't contain all the features of Google Voice, such as a unique Google phone number. This initial account allows you to manage the basics for calling phone numbers in a video call, such as call credit. If you're a Gmail or Google Voice user, your call credit and call history will be shared across all three products. At the moment, users outside the US cannot upgrade to a full Google Voice account.

How do I view my call history?

  1. Go to Google Voice.
  2. Click History on the left-hand side of the page.
If you're a Gmail or Google Voice user, your call credit and call history will be shared across all three products.

What do I do if I'm experiencing issues with billing?

We're sorry to hear that you're having trouble. You can request a refund of your entire remaining balance or request credit for a particular call by signing in to your account and following these steps:
  1. Visit our credit request start page.
  2. Click the Refunds button next to your calling credit.
  3. Click Refund entire balance.
