Google Chat will be replaced by Hangouts on June 26, 2017. Learn how to use Hangouts.

Disabling 'Call phone' in Gmail

If you do not wish to use or see the Call phone feature in your Gmail chat list, you can disable it. To do so:

  1. In the upper right corner of Gmail, click the gear icon and then click Mail settings.
  2. Click the Chat tab.
  3. In the Call Phone section, click Disable outbound voice calling.
  4. Click Save Changes.

The above steps only disable outbound calling in Gmail. If you have enabled Google Chat as a forwarding phone in Google Voice, you must disable it separately.
